Health

How I dropped my weight 40 pounds and kept it off for 31 years without special diets or exercising

Synopsis

I start to notice my weight

People around me have talked about their diets for years, but nothing ever changes. Why?

Diets don’t work
Because they attack the wrong…

Personal Philosophy

It’s the compliment everyone sees. Actions speak louder than words.

Synopsis

How others see us

People, i.e. strangers, frequently comment on how they love watching us dancing together. Odd since I don’t know how to dance. One lady even gave us a red rose.

That is today. It started years ago.

During our vacation in Cancun, Mexico, the waiter told us that we were not like most couples. All of the staff had noticed. We asked what he meant. …

The Abortion issue is complicated by Technical Mistakes and Logic Errors by the Supreme Court, Hypocrisy by both sides, plus the Upcoming Responsibility Shift.

The Supreme Court made a significant technical mistake in their Roe-v-Wade ruling. In addition, it used the wrong basis to support abortion. They have a chance to fix both with the Mississippi case.

Abortion supporters and opponents are generally hypocrites when discussing abortion and the death penalty. Opponents are also hypocrites concerning the baby.

Technology will eventually catch up and, if handled right, shift responsibilities, adding one to the sperm donor that doesn’t exist at this…

Increase the power of the Lists feature dramatically with a Master TOC, especially if you have dozens or hundreds of stories.

When a new reader goes to your profile, Medium shows up to 5 pinned stories, then the rest in reverse chronological order. It might take an hour to scroll through all of them. Most readers won’t do that.

I built a table of contents, organized into categories, which had to be updated with every new story, still a 20-minute read.

Now, I link category Lists into the Master TOC. Medium creates a photo so I don’t have to find…

Show stories clearly, even 100 stories, with this simple Table-of-contents methodology using a combined story format and lists

Synopsis

When a new reader goes to your profile, Medium shows about a one-minute preview of each of your stories. That’s OK if you have three or four, but what if you have 50 or 100?

It might take an hour to scroll through all of them and you would still see just the title and subtitle. Most readers won’t do that.

I will show how to build an organized structure that lets a reader quickly peruse your articles, more powerful than the new lists feature and easier to put together than stories.

Framework

About 9 months ago, I developed a table-of-contents…

In addition, it has links to the author’s latest published story and a few stories that the author chooses to feature.

Diabetes

The Libra 2 continuous glucose monitoring sensor works, but its main benefit differs significantly from the two TV ads

Synopsis

My wife of 20 years is a Type 1 diabetic and more disciplined with blood tests at meals and bedtime than a Marine Drill Sargent. Her doctor badgered her into trying the Libra 2 continuous sensor to detect frequent low blood sugars and sound the alert.

The system, still in its technical infancy, has many problems, but there is one compelling reason to keep it.

It sounds the alert around 2:00 am
Before the number becomes critically low!

That is our reason for putting up with all of its shortcomings. Here is our experience.

Note: blood sugar units are shown…

Comments

Don’t assume either writer is a mind reader. A clear, explicit way to avoid confusion & hurt feelings.

Synopsis

According to my survey, 91% felt links in comments are ok if

done professionally, relevant,
and not specifically forbidden by the author

Finally, the connection to the main story should be explicitly explained.

Structure of the comment

My boss once said, “What is obvious to you is usually not obvious to anybody else.”
