I definitely agree. Time doing things like that takes away from what you want and need to do. I didn't figure out what to do professionally until I was 34 and didn't get my personal life straightened out until age 54.
I never got to +100, but this is how I lost weight with normal foods. At +100, you would have to do it in increments if you decide to try it.
As for diabetes, my wife has Type 1. My first article on Medium might help your family, if it applies to Type 2. I am interested to know if it does.

By the way, my favorite exercise is dancing with my wife for a couple hours.
