I graduated with a degree in mathematics and count everything, just not continuously. You are correct. Looking at stats all of the time is just another form of procrastination. I never thought of myself as a writer even when I had 10 articles published without a single rejection, wrote and presented speeches at 7 conventions, written numerous computer classes, and wrote the user instructions for over 100 apps that I built. My term papers saved my Humanities grades in college. Look at all of those stats. That was on top of my regular job of designing and coding software and my goal was not to work overtime, which I rarely did. I write for fun, but I still like to count. In fact, my nickname was “The Count” on one of my jobs. I did write software for statisticians, accountants and later worked for a publisher.
