I was interested to see how much had changed and how much was still the same from when I started.

The parts about comments, documentation, designing with maintenance in mind, and naming standards haven’t changed much from my first app which ran for 18 years without a single change.

We had no real code reviews or automated testing at that time. That is a big industry improvement.

Everything was on cards. My programs did have embedded comments and there were tons of external documentation. Nobody made any changes because nobody understood what my app was doing. They lost the documentation and the math was over everybody’s head. That app increased the company’s market share by 20%.

Thanks for the review of today’s working environment.
