I wondered in college if I should believe anything that most of the guys bragged about. They may have been playing one-upmanship with each other and told the same story so many times that 10 years later, they believed that it actually happened.

I suspect that some men practice self-deception by reading things that just are not there, like from a woman being polite.

Of course, some are outright liars.
