My programmer trainee worked for one of those corporations. They hired her just to increase their black and female workforce percentages. They had no projects for her, as promised.
I told her that was not the reason I recommended her. I said, "You are smart, can learn on your own, and I don't have to send you to a bunch of classes." Later, I thought I sounded kind of gruff, but maybe it was a compliment.
I didn't care about anything but this, "Good programs work, bad ones don't." Hers worked.
