Splitting expenses is much harder when you have two places. My wife and I carried this method into our marriage: the budget spreadsheet had hers, mine and House expenses. Same thing for bank accounts — hers, mine and joint (house) accounts. House was things like insurance, house payments, groceries, etc. Car payments and clothes, along with work expenses, were personal. We split the house expenses by percent of total income. We were both on unemployment at different times. Then it was about 90:10. Student loans and prior debt would have to be discussed.
