The top of my resume said, “I solve problems.”
I forced the trainees to present solutions first; then we discussed them and other options. I gave them a time limit, in case they couldn’t find one. We at least had a basis for discussion.
One trainee used to get so upset with me because I would present three solutions, with benefits and problems of each, when she couldn’t find one in 2 or 3 days.
She also said that she learned more from me in 2 months than in the prior year and a half that included a 6-week programming boot camp.
