“What if” is destructive if it prevents you from doing something, especially if it is tied to feelings and fears. “What if” is valid if it helps you move forward or prepare for possible problems. I told my trainees, "Nothing you do counts until it goes into production." That prevented them from trying to be perfect.

Good points about asking. Nobody knows everything.
