You are absolutely correct about indispensability being counterproductive. I never thought of myself as a rock star until I read this article.
How did I make sure that I was always a rock star?
I trained EVERYBODY to be a rock star. I put them into a position to be the star of the project. You got to that in your article.
I received these types of comments:
1. “I learned more from you in 2 months than in the last year and a half.”
2. “I never felt under so much pressure in my life.” My reply, “I knew you could do it. YOU didn’t know you could do it.”
Also, I made sure that I was never promoted to be a manager.
Isn’t a Linchpin like a cat?
